Earlier today, Thomas S. Monson was announced as the 16th President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. My heart cannot express the feelings that I have had this past week. I mourned the loss of our beloved Prophet, President Hinckley. I grew up during the years of his service, and have known no other as our church leader. It was a hard blow, and it shook me quite a bit. I feel that I can understand only a hundreth part of what the early Saints went through, losing Joseph Smith. Yet, I knew that Pres. Hinckley’s death would change nothing. The Church would go on, and in a few days, a new leader would be named. I prayed that I would receive a testimony in my heart of this new leaders prophetic calling. I needed to know. The night before Pres. Hinckley’s funeral, I had a dream. Never mind the specifics, but in the dream Pres. Hinckley passed on an assignment to President Monson. I awoke from the dream and knew. The next day as I watched Pres. Monson conduct the late prophet’s funeral, I could see in him that calling.
I know that these three men are called of God to direct the affairs of this church. I know it with everything that is in me. I’m grateful that once again there is a Prophet to guide us.
